Every year in March, millions of fans celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Theodor Seuss Geisel was an American writer, cartoonist, animator, book publisher, and artist. Selling over 600 million copies, he wrote some of the most well-known and most translated children’s book of all time. With his quirky characters, memorable rhymes and zesty humor, his books both entertain and teach children about courage, creativity, curiosity and responsibility, respect while at the same time encouraging them to explore and be creative.

As great believers in the power of creativity, Geographics.com, TheRoyalStore and IClicknPrint Design Center join the celebration, reaffirming our mission to help customers make the best of our products and offer tools to explore their own creativity.

Here are a few steps that you could take to today to encourage and support children to be more creative:

  • Be a creative role model yourself. We all have our ways of doing things and we rarely question them because routine saves time and energy so why not try to consciously set a goal to try and do something in a new way and involve your children in the process. If you usually listen to the radio when driving the kids to school, try to turn it off and sing a song – maybe even invent your own song. Grab a Royal Brites Project Board and spend time together every week working on different projects – a family tree or vision board, a creative calendar for the month, etc.

Creativity post March_iclicknprint

  • Allow children to be bored. Resist the urge to fill all your kids’ time with activities and let them get bored every now and then. This usually gets their creative juices flowing and when they start using their imagination – they make up their own games, they turn objects into toys, they make up stories, songs, etc.

  • Foster a creative atmosphere. Take away the fancy toys, give them a few sheets of Geographics Design Paper and challenge them to an essay or story telling contest or a few Royal Lace paper doilies from TheRoyalStore and see what they come up with. A white or color Royal Brites Poster Board sheet would be as good as it allows them plenty of space to pour their ideas on.

Creativiti post 02_iclicknprint

There are now extensive studies and compelling evidence showing how involving children in creative activities comes with many positive consequences:

  • They learn to look at the world from different perspectives;

  • They can better identify and express their emotions (through art, drama, etc.);

  • They become more empathetic as they learn to put themselves in other people’s shoes;

  • They develop their capacity to focus;

  • They learn to solve problems by exploring different possibilities;

  • The creative process boosts their imagination, etc.

If creativity is “the ability to challenge, question and explore and involves taking risks, playing with ideas, keeping an open mind and making connections where none are obvious” per the Victoria and Albert Museum of Childhood, wouldn’t we all want to encourage, support and guide our children in ways that fosters creativity especially when we can make it fun for all?

The holidays are fast approaching and everyone has already begun to think about what they want to buy for presents, or they have already started their holiday shopping. Today we are going to show you a great idea for a handmade gift that can be created in so many ways – we will show you how to made a handmade ornament. After all, isn’t it better when it comes from the heart?

 13-paper-glitter   (Inspiration from That’s My Letter blog)

Ornaments are wonderful gifts from the heart because it is the gift that keeps on giving. It can be used year after year, and it will make the recipient think of you every time they hang that ornament on their tree. These ornaments can be given to teachers, a friend, a family member, or even your boss at work!

A great material for the base of your handmade ornament are these is our E-Z Print Sign Board, it comes in smaller pieces so its easier to cut. You can also use our poster board products if you like, and cut the board into smaller sections, making it easier to work with

You can use a word stamp to get the same effect as above, or even use an old book if you have one laying around

To make the base, you need to form the paper in the shape of a cone like below. Tear paper into small rectangles that measure about 2.5″X2″ Roll the rectangle into a cone, and use glue to make it secure. Each ornament uses 20 rolls so plan accordingly

For the center piece, you can cut stars from a heavy card stock. Our thicker poster board, or foam board products are perfect for this step. The star should be about 3 inches. You can print an outline online to make this step easier for you

Next step is to make the hanger. Use a thread and needed and go through the center of the top point on the stars

Now to put it all together! Glue the cones onto the star. Add rolls to the spaces and fill in between the cones. You can add glitter to the edges with a paint brush, glue, and glitter color of your choice

After you shook the glitter off, you can add another piece to the center. Cut a 2 inch circle from your remaining materials and using a sticker, or similar supply you can add a letter to the center of the circle. Make it pop by painting over the letter with glue and covering it with glitter

The last step is to hot glue your letter to the center of the ornament and you have your handmade ornament gift! Super easy and I bet you already have all these materials in your home! Light up your home with a new twist on the traditional! Hanukkah is just around the corner – and this craft is one you and your kids will love! The possibilities are endless with this handmade menorah project – and you will be sure to find one to suit your style.

hanukkah-menorah-crafts-kids

Here are the basic materials to make a handmade menorah:

- paper

- coloring utensils

- scissors

- glue

- craft sticks

- paint or markers

- toilet paper rolls / paper towel rolls

- yellow poster board

Save either 8 toilet paper rolls or 4 paper towel rolls that can be cut in half to be used for the candles. Clean off any tissue bits from the rolls and paint them in blue. You can use one shade or multiple – its up to you!

When dry, using a paper towel roll, cut it so there is a larger half that can be used as the center shamash candle for your handmade menorah.

After you have done this, its time to make the candles. I used craft sticks and yellow poster board for this step. The poster board can be cut into sections to make it easier to work with. Cut the paper into teardrop shapes to represent the flames. Glue the teardrop candle flames to the ends of the craft sticks.

Now you are done making your own handmade menorah! Each night when its time to “light” the menoarah, place each stick in the center of each roll.

An alternative for older children, can be creating a base as well, that the candles can be glued into. You can glue a candle in for each night of Hanukkah! www.iClicknPrint.com has all the tools you need to make your crafts and projects at home!

Its the last Thanksgiving craft before the big day! Here is a simple and super easy tutorial for a paper turkey roll that your kids can work on while you prepare one of – if not the biggest meal of the year.

Supplies that you will need to make your paper turkey -

- A toilet paper or paper towel roll

- A piece of poster board or foam board (any size will work)

- Glue

- Paint brush

- Glitter glue

- Googly eyes

- Package of E-Z Print Primary Variety Sign Board

You can start by cutting your paper towel or toilet paper roll in half. You can also cut a piece of foam board or poster board into a half moon shape, which will be used as the body.

Then, you can use the E-Z Print Variety Pack, and choose the colors you would like for the turkey’s “body parts.” Orange or red are perfect for the beak, and orange, black, or brown can be used for the feet.

Next, you can paint the paper towel or toilet paper roll if you would like. Or you can leave it as is, since its already brown. Glue your turkeys parts onto the roll, adding the eyes, beak and feet.

Sit the body to dry, and while your project is drying, you can move onto the fun part – creating the feathers for your paper turkey roll!

While loose glitter can be used, glitter glue is perfect for younger children who like to get messy with their crafts. You can use a dish for the different colors of glitter glue, and add to your projects with a paint brush.

Once the plates are dry, you can now attach your turkey roll. You can use tape or glue for this step, as well as adding the feet to the bottom. Here is the end result – a cute handmade paper turkey for the holidays! They make for great home decor!

Get your children thinking about gratitude this Thanksgiving with a lovely handmade “Thankful Tree.”

IMGP5081

Your kids will love putting this together, and have so much fun decorating the leaves! There is something about taking the time to stop and write down the blessings in your life that makes them sweeter and makes you appreciate them more. There are many different ways to do this craft – so we will go through a few.

The first step is to create the base of the tree. Our poster board and foam board products make for the perfect base! They can be cut, colored, and placed together however you would like. Another great alternative is paper bags. You can tear and crumple paper bag pieces to create a large tree!

The next step is to think of things/people/places your are thankful for and compile a list. You can make “rules” for the leaves, or leave your family members to choose to make as many leaves as they’d like, with anything they are thankful for. A great product to use for the leaves is our poster board. We offer a variety of sizes and colors – including red, orange, yellow, and green – the perfect colors for leaves.

Another great thankful tree idea is to make one with twigs from outside, or a spool of baker’s twine, which can be purchased at the craft store. This smaller version makes the perfect Thanksgiving family dinner center piece. You can even have your guest create a leaf of their own to add to the tree!

martha-stewart-thanksgiving-0170_vert

After creating and attaching the leaves, your “Thankful Tree” is done. Place the tree in an area in your home so that you can see it every day. The tree will bring gratitude to your daily life and you will constantly be able to read and be reminded of the things you are thankful for. This project is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face every time you look at it! I have included a list of the materials that are needed below!
